Rocco Mustafa is a long time friend of frustration. He structures his music around this theme and living in Youngstown where the skies are gun steel gray 300 days a year (as it is with most of northern Ohio). He has recently pulled together a group of diverse musicians also from Youngstown (the list is too long and expansive) to help him breathe life into a collections of songs he began crafting over the last five years or so.
His family recreation room has since been claimed as Modern Life's writing room. Over time Rocco began rolling out large sofas and other seating that took up space and in came an upright piano, 8x10 cabinets, drum machines, a myriad of guitars, amps and chord organs. He still hangs onto the acoustic he bought long ago as it's still a primary writing instrument. From the tortured melodies that came out as be plucked away at the strings birthed forth Modern Life. Alan Williams, his brother-in-law and live-in drummer has been there since the beginning lending his expertise and knowledge as a musician to him. Later came other instrumentalist with more disciplined musical backgrounds and various experience, but connect over their mutual desire to play music that challenge their emotions and trumped propriety; a music that embraces its flaws and makes them the distinguished marks of something beautiful.
He spent the last few month hold-up in a studio with this same rotating cast of contributers building a recording that surpasses all his home made efforts prior (and those weren't that bad in and of them self). Some of the tracks have recently been posted on Modern Life's myspace for you to enjoy. These recordings are something you should not miss and when they are released you would be stupid to not throw down a few bucks to pick up your piece of the progression that Modern Life through the eyes of Rocco Mustafa.
