» Do you guys like to drink milk?
- Yes. And no. Some of have a low lactose tolerance. We try to love all things, but somethings just make us sick... like news television, shitty pop music, jock bars, Carson Daly and The Dave Matthews Band.» Will you come visit me?
- No. Maybe. Probably not.» I heard you where thinking about bring back 900 numbers. Is this true and how?
- Well. Everyone now-a-days has a website thanks to the brilliance and delusional people behind myspace and other trash generating web entities of the like. Everything feels to convenient these days. Remember when you had to call up your porn? We figured, it might be better to not buy a domain name and server space, but to buy a bunch of 900 numbers that you'd have to call to "get connected". Sooo... to answer the question. No. We decided to stay on the web. We are lazy too and the porn is better.» A/S/L?
- Well now. I haven't seen that typed since the days of AOL 2.0! Good times. I can only speak for me, so I will tell you that the collective that writes/manages/publishes/contributes at the crap you see here, so far, is no younger than 23 and no older than 32. (Oh look. A numerical palindrome!) and we are straight, bi, gay and tri-sexual. (Some of us will try anything!) Where are we from? Mostly, Youngstown, Ohio. I never used to be cool and still isn't so I won't pretend this is the place to be by adding exclamation points after the city.» Where the fuck is Youngstown, Ohio?
- It's right here!» What is there to do Youngstown?
- There used to one thing to do within the last 10 years, but as of new years eve 2006 it closed it's doors. This place was a hole in the wall bar called the Nyabinghi located on West Side of Youngstown on a street lined with houses filled with poor families and a smoke filled back drop of abandoned or barely operable steel mills.I won't be too harsh on this city, but there's really not much "going on" and I use that term loosely. It depends on what you desire do. If you want to get drunk every weekend and listen to shitty music in every corner of Youngstown, then there's ALOT to do.
But as for having any bastions of hope for those who desire art & music that seems more genuine and creative than the second rate choices that exist in excess. Theres The Oakland Theater which provides often very avant-garde shows and plays host to a brilliant public open mic type event that attracts everything from fashion shows, comedians, writers, and musicians who have no real stage in the public forum for their honest expressions of art. There is also a few bars that infrequently have shows with music that is worth the cover charge. You just have to keep an eye out. Most people end up going to Cleveland or Pittsburgh since Youngstown is smack in the middle.
All the good artist that live here look outside of the city for their audience. There are great artists here and the city I guess that's what you get for living in a post industrial hell hole.
» What is the art like in Youngstown?
- All the good artist that live here look outside of the city for their audience. It's a rare occasion that anyone here who has enough art to have a gallery or something to celebrate is noticed and beloved by the local populous. The general attitude in the city is depressing and everyone generally wants out. I guess that's what you get for living in a post industrial hell hole. There are great artists that call this place home. If you listen closely you will hear them playing their music to 5 or 10 of their friends in a living room you will see the painters and photographers meandering the streets working their regular beats. Mostly they will be in and out of crowds, try to avoid the throngs of people who don't regard art at all with any enthusiasm unless it resembles something from MTV or the mall. It's hard to catch these guys and sit them down and converse. They are agoraphobic, they are introverted, they convinced and believe in authenticity and have a hard time putting up with anything less.» What is the point of Subpopular?
- To support and uphold the art and passions of the artists all over the world... And to inspire those in this corner of the world there's more going on in the world and more should be going like it in my stretch of land.
